This is the first post of The Planetwide Blog posts that I'll be issuing, and I intend to post one each week so you can follow along with global changes Wild City Plants is tracking.

The world is a constantly changing place, and today more than ever it can sometimes be difficult to remember the events a day, week, or month previously. My hope here is to provide you with a window into some recent events related to climate change and global affairs, and hopefully make some of that information more easy to find for posterity.

Today, I'll be discussing some recent climate news.

• The BBC published today, June 12th, 2022, that Fiji Defence Minister Inia Seruiratu told a security summit in Singapore: " The single greatest threat to our very existence is climate change..." Fiji has seen a great deal of negative impact from climate change despite being one of the smallest producers of global greenhouse emissions.
• Utah's Great Salt Lake is evaporating and poses a threat of creating toxic dust as reported by by Christopher Flavelle on June 7th, 2022 at the New York Times. Not only does climate change pose a problem for places like the Salt Lake in the United States, lakes around the globe are also facing problems due to oxygen loss from excess summer heat.
• Antarctic ice loss is now at its greatest rate in the last 5,500 years, Nature World News published this week on June 10th, 2022. For comparison, this is when we have the first evidence of Egyptian mummification, the oldest known depiction of a wheeled vehicle, is before the start of the Bronze Age and the known creation of writing in ancient Sumer and Egypt.

Climate change and its impact on our planetary environment supersedes all other problems humanity is facing. If we do not have a habitable planet, we will cease to exist as the advanced society we know today, if at all.
